Onoway is a friendly town located 60 km from Edmonton. This town prides itself on its environmentalism, encouraging all businesses to have environmentally positive attitudes. Its major economic base is a mixture of agriculture, farm service, gravel, and retail and service trade. Onoway is bisected by the Lac Ste. Anne Trail, the route that traders, Indians, pack trains, and settlers used in the 1800s. Every year, over 20,000 pilgrims travel this route on their way to Lac Ste. Anne. Onoway has a current population of 1,036, only recently being recognized as a town. Its great location means it is close to a large urban centre, as well as several golf courses, ski hills, and more than seven lakes within a 30 km proximity. The town itself offers a number of restaurants and numerous retail outlets. Onoway also prides itself on having some of the finest hunting and fishing in the province. The community comes together annually to celebrate Heritage Days, honoring the pioneers with a parade, a fair, a fiddlers contest, a family dance, and fireworks. People are encouraged to become involved in the community and to join one of the many service groups, clubs, and organizations that Onoway has to offer.
