Edmonton is the political capital of Alberta with a population in excess of one million people and rapidly growing. The city is firmly committed to its creed of multiculturalism and has the most diversified population in the country. Edmonton’s residents are highly educated with over 50% of them having completed post-secondary education. This comes as no surprise given the city’s ten universities and colleges. Edmonton prides itself on being a world hub for the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries and its robust economy has lead to an unemployment rate under 5%. There are many career opportunities for those seeking employment.

The community has much to offer its residents, including the gorgeous river valley that winds through the middle of the city, creating numerous recreational opportunities within a natural setting. Edmonton is home to the world’s largest shopping and entertainment complex, West Edmonton Mall. If a multitude of festivals sounds exciting, Edmonton has the reputation of being a “Festival City,” hosting more than 30 festivals per year, such as Canada’s first Fringe Theatre Festival, an outdoor Shakespeare festival, and one of the world’s finest folk music festivals. For a large city the real estate is still considered very reasonable and the residential property taxes are amongst the lowest in Canada. The residents of Edmonton enjoy a very high quality of life.
