Fort McMurray is a booming city located 435 km northeast of Edmonton. It is a vibrant community rich in history with unlimited potential for the future. Its location makes it one of the best places to view ‘Alberta’s Northern Lights”—a solar wind that colors the winter night sky in astonishing shades of green, red, yellow, and purple. Not only is this a beautiful community, but it is also a very prosperous one thanks to the oil sands, which has lead to a huge population boom in recent years. The community is also very active in the industries of natural gas and pipeline sectors, as well as forestry, tourism, and retail. Fort McMurray’s current population is 61,000 and is steadily rising. This population growth has spurred the development of new businesses so as to meet all of the community’s needs for services. Winter recreational activities are very popular in this community, with lots of snow for snowmobiling, dog sledding, and horse-drawn sled tours. In the summer, people can canoe along the historical travel and trade routes that were followed by early trappers and explorers, as well as explore the sand dunes, hike the trails, and fish in the pristine clear waters.
